Newborn Lifestyle Sessions in the Studio
The "lifestyle" photography style is less about those airbrushed, posed photos of babies and more about capturing the beauty of your family's little daily moments. I don't just get photos of babies. I get photos of the whole family with the baby, snuggling on the bed, nursing or bottle feeding, etc.
I typically use a couple of props for a handful of individual posed photos of your new arrival. These are best when your little one is swaddled and cozy. I've undergone safety and posing training to make sure that your little bundle is in great hands. I will not put your baby in any positions that could pose a risk to them, and if they're not a fan of something, we will move on. I typically include a few simple swaddled photos in a create or bucket with a tieback or bonnet that we can choose together. I tend to stick to neutrals, but I do have plenty of color options in the studio, as well.
I believe in following baby's lead throughout the session. This often means a LOT of downtime while we feed and wait. If you have a slow eater or a baby who gets fussy when we try to set them, please know that this is totally normal. These sessions are designed with plenty of cushion for fussy babies. I typically block off a total of 3 hours for a session. During this block, we'll have time to get everyone dressed (if you plan to use my closet) and take photos. There will be some cushion to allow for time spent feeding or calming baby, as well.
If you want to include a sibling in photos, I recommend having one adult take the kiddos out on an errand and bring them in just for the images that include them. We usually do these at the beginning or end of the session. This helps keep the environment calm and relaxed, and it's much easier on the older sibling(s).
We tragically lost our first daughter, Maisy, before her first birthday in an incident at the babysitter's. I truly understand how valuable that new little life is. As you trust me with your new little bundle, please know that I take my responsibility seriously. I'll sanitize and if it makes you more comfortable, I'm happy to mask during the session. I'll take every precaution to protect your child as if they were my own.
